History

Sandwich, Illinois, was first begun in 1855, when Almon Cage received support to have a stop for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy railroad built on his land. Cage donated the land to build a station, marking the beginning of Sandwich. In 2009, Sandwich celebrated its Sesquicentennial as a city. Today, the Sandwich Illinois Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the city’s history.
