The city originated from the towns of Pico and Rivera, which flourished as agricultural communities until the mid-1940s. The development of the Rivera town site in 1887 by J. Fletcher Isbell and W. T. Bone marked a significant milestone in the city’s history. The city’s modern identity was established in 1958 when the communities of Pico and Rivera merged to form Pico Rivera. The city’s history is preserved in the Pico Rivera Historical Museum, which houses a collection of photographs, historical objects, and old documents.
